Favorite ColorBlue
First Experience in PhilanthropyI grew up on a farm in Iowa and we had a huge family that all lived close to each other. Growing up, I knew the importance of community and looking out for each other. In high school, my Sunday School class would plan and fundraise for a 2 week mission trip each year – staying at a homeless shelter in Philadelphia, building a mission in Biloxi, Mississippi or rebuilding a church in Birmingham, Alabama that had been burned down by arson. Those experiences built a foundation for a life dedicated to building community and helping others succeed.
Focus AreasCommunity Health / Federally Qualified Health Centers, Tribal Health Clinics, Sustainable Community Development and Renewable Energy, Native American and Hispanic-serving organizations, Women’s Leadership, Indigenous Wisdom, Women’s Cooperatives, and Climate Change/Reforestation.

Personal MissionMy personal mission is to leave the world a better place. I want to make a difference in the lives of those I love, my community, the earth—and most importantly, in the lives of children.
Favorite Thing to Do When Not WorkingCamping in the Rocky Mountains, exploring new countries, reading historical books, swimming and spending fun time with my family.
Favorite DrinkIce cold water on a hot day
Favorite ColorPurple
First Experience in PhilanthropyMy first experience was on the receiving end. My father died when I was eleven, and my mom, who never remarried, struggled to make ends meet. I remember getting food from a local food bank. Shortly afterward, my Blue Bird group did a food drive. I realized that the food my mother had received was donated by people who wanted to help others, and it really stuck with me. I've always wanted to be on the helping end, and went on to start my own charitable drives and clubs, eventually engaging in a career as a fundraiser. I serve on many boards and find it hard to say no to those most vulnerable in our communities.
Focus AreasChild Welfare, Social Policy and Advocacy, Children, Community Building, Cultural Awareness and Appreciation, and Education, just to name a few!

Kay Monaco
Personal MissionTo be kind and generous to everyone I meet.
Favorite Thing to Do When Not WorkingTo read the whole NY Times and do the crossword puzzles. And garden too. Far from a favorite thing, I also make it to the gym four or five times a week, which helps make a transition from work time to play time.
Favorite DrinkA morning protein shake and an evening gin and tonic.
Favorite ColorThe rainbow, although I wear a lot of black.
First Experience in PhilanthropyMy parents did not have much spare cash, but every evening my father would empty his pockets of pennies, and collect them in a jar in the kitchen cabinet. Then, once every few months, we’d sit and roll pennies, which my dad then sent to a Catholic missionary. It always reminds me that everyone can afford to give just a little.
Focus AreasStrengthening non-profits by aligning the organization’s activities and practice with the internal theory of change and logic model, and evaluating the outcomes. Too often, non-profits are working so hard day-to-day that they lose the framework, or the big picture, of their work. Re-establishing the context, and developing written strategic and development plans help re-energize the staff and Board, and help keep the organization on track. I’m also a big fan of getting work to sometimes be fun.

Rici Peterson
Personal MissionI have a passion for awareness-building and social progress—particularly when it comes to living sustainably with nature and the environment.
Favorite Thing to Do When Not WorkingTravel and explore! When I’m closer to home, I enjoy hiking, great conversations, reading, singing with the Sangre de Cristo Chorale, cooking for and with friends, and hanging out with my fiancé Jeff.
Favorite DrinkBy day, a cup of strong Irish Breakfast with soymilk; by night, a good Malbec or rich Sauvignon Blanc.
Favorite ColorMossy greens…golden browns… russet…I can’t possibly choose just one!
First Experience in PhilanthropyWhile in college, I volunteered during a fundraiser at Denver’s public radio station. From that moment I was hooked. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as working with people who give of themselves for a cause they believe in.
Focus AreasStrategic communications, writing, editing for clarity and effectiveness, interpretive planning and training, and facilitation. I love to help clients develop messages that forge strong relationships with supporters, partners, and community stakeholders.

First Experience in PhilanthropyAs a previous teacher, I helped many young adults in need of positive guidance to look outside the box and present to them many opportunities that they might have never realized. These included options on how to afford a college education and how to focus and find the career path that is right for them. In addition, I have held many fund raising activities through the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations to raise money for non-profits as well as organizing gift giving activities for families in need during the holidays.
Focus AreasI have a strong background/degree in business and finance, along with a degree/certification in teaching. I believe these combinations of personal attributes allow me to focus and accomplish any project presented to me. As the teams Network Administrator it is my responsibility to help them stay focused, assist them when needed on any project and keep current of all new opportunities for our clients. Other areas are K-12 Education, Physical Fitness, Substance Abuse Awareness, Deployed Military Family Support, and Community/Neighborhood Safety Actions.
